Young Simmer players thrilled to play at Emirates Airline Park

Germiston Simmer Junior Rugby Club’s u-9 team were invited to play two matches ahead of the Golden Lions’ Currie Cup match against the Griquas last Saturday.

Before the Golden Lions and Griquas ran out for their Currie Cup semi-final match last Saturday, Germiston Simmer Junior Rugby Club’s u-9 team took to the Emirates Airline Park field.

The team played not one but two matches against Wanderers Junior Rugby Club and UJ Junior Rugby Club, respectively.

All the teams are part of the Golden Lions Primary Schools Rugby Union (GLRU).

“Our team was given the great opportunity to play not one but two games,” said club chairperson Vincent Herselman.

“Although they were short matches, of only 12 minutes one way, it was an experience of a lifetime to play in the stadium where their heroes play.

“A big thank you goes to GLRU and Emirates Airline Park for the opportunity.”
