Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club hosted Vosloorus Cricket Club, Benoni Northerns Cricket Club and Kempton Park Cricket Club in their Easterns Cricket League weekend fixtures.
It was a weekend full of cricket for the Elsburg Eagles Cricket Club as the club faced Vosloorus Cricket Club, Benoni Northerns Cricket Club and Kempton Park Cricket Club in three different Easterns Cricket League weekend fixtures.
The first of these saw the club’s u-10 side hosting Vosloorus Cricket Club at the club’s home grounds, the Elspark Sports Complex, last Saturday.
Elsburg batted first and set a target of 109 runs, all out, in their 25 allotted overs.
Club chairperson Martiens Grobler commended all the young batsmen on their great performance at the crease.
Vosloorus then took their turn to bat and knocked up a total of 113 runs, with two wickets in hand, in their 25 allotted overs.
This gave the visiting team a two-wicket victory.
“We are very proud of our juniors,” said Grobler.
“They gave their all in bowling, fielding and batting and we are seeing weekly improvements in each player.
“All our youngsters need is some time.”
The club’s first Sunday team faced Benoni Northerns Cricket Club, at the Elspark Sports Complex, in their Sunday Directors League match, last Sunday.
The visitors were sent in to bat first and set a target of 278, all out, in their 50 allotted overs.
The match’s top bowlers for Elsburg were Theuns Herbst, with two wickets for 23 runs in seven overs, Darren van Tonder, with two wickets for 48 runs in 10 overs, and Frank Williams, with two wickets for 48 runs in six overs.
Elsburg then took to the crease, where they were only able to knock up 239 runs before they were all out, giving Benoni a 39-run victory.
Elsburg’s top batsmen were Herbst with 46 runs, and Grobler with 32 runs.
In the club’s Sunday President’s League match the club played host to Kempton Park Cricket Club.
Kempton won the clash by seven wickets.
“We are slowly building up our Sunday President’s League side and are very proud of them,” said Grobler.
“The oldest member of this team is only 20 years old.
“I am sure they will learn and develop their skills over time.”
