Simmer ready to tackle new season

Germiston Simmer Rugby Club have begun training for the new rugby season.

Germiston Simmer Rugby Club is ready to tackle the new season and has already begun practising.

This year the club, with new sponsor Phakisa Holdings, will compete in the Pirates Grand Challenge and hope to break their 44-year drought and lift the trophy at the end of the season.

“We are always looking for new players and club members to join our ranks, as we need to fill three senior teams and an u-20 side,” said club chairperson René Audier.

“We are also calling on anyone interested in becoming a rugby referee, as we will have training courses available.”

Practise sessions will be held at Germiston Stadium on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm until 8pm.

“Our senior teams will be coached by Eben Barnard, Jean Diemieniet, Monde Petela, Mosis Venter and Eddie Mathuiysen,” explained Audier.

“While our u-20 team will be trained by Paul Nevenling and Stefan Nel.”
