Team Ekurhuleni competes for Soncini Provincial Games
Ekurhuleni Team to compete at the Soncini Games in UJ is now selected.
Team Ekurhuleni gathered at the Germiston Stadium to compete in the OR Tambo Soncini Provincial Games, with athletes from across the region receiving their selection certificates and kits.
Led by Team Ekurhuleni General Manager Bruce Malele, the team will represent the area in various sports, including soccer, netball, basketball, athletics, long jump, and para-sports.

Vivian Wepner, competing in the long and high jump, shared his excitement about his first Soncini Games.
“I love to prove myself and enjoy the experience. It’s been a busy time balancing school and athletics,” Wepner said, optimistic about his performance.
Hoërskool Elsburg’s Lebone Skhosana, who persevered through injury, placed second in long jump with a 1.8m jump to secure his spot in the Ekurhuleni team.

Skhosana’s resilience has seen him excel in both club and school competitions.
The selected athletes have been training intensively to foster teamwork.
Malele expressed pride in their efforts, highlighting that every four years, a Gauteng squad has the chance to compete internationally in Italy, thanks to partnerships with Italy and the Provincial Department of Sports, Arts, Culture, and Recreation.
“Let’s bring the OR Tambo Soncini Provincial Games trophy home and be Gauteng’s top region,” Malele said, rallying his team.
