Germiston Simmer Rugby Club has kicked off the 2025 rugby season with renewed vigor and ambition.

The club is fielding five teams this year: U19, U21, 2nd team, 1st team, and, for the first time, a women’s team.

Coach Monde Petela is optimistic about the season ahead.

“I’m optimistic about Simmer’s chances and have high expectations for the squad.

“We’ve been working hard to rebuild and refocus, and we’re excited to get back out on the pitch and show what we’re capable of,” he said.

He emphasised the team’s goal is to top the league standings.

“We know we have a lot to prove, but we’re confident that we have what it takes to end on top of the league in 2025,” Petela said.

The club’s pre-season training commenced on January 14 at 18:00, welcoming both new and returning players.

The women’s team’s debut is particularly noteworthy, reflecting the club’s commitment to inclusivity and growth.
