“I started taking athletics seriously in Grade Four and consistently came first. I qualified for the district level, but struggled to progress beyond that,” she said.
“This year, I competed at the national level for both schools and clubs. I’m proud to be the first student from my school to qualify for nationals, and I was awarded the national colours blazer, shoes, and sports kit.
“Having a coach has been a game-changer for me,” Nkomo said.

“For the first time, I have a coach, and we’re working on building my fitness levels. I’m grateful for their guidance, as I couldn’t have achieved what I have this year without their support.”
Nkomo also excels academically, having won scrolls and certificates for her outstanding performance. To prepare for the upcoming cross-country season, she trains at the Germiston Stadium on weekdays.
