Germiston blackball legend gifts cue to junior champ at SA tournament
"This stick is a rare find, imported from Canada and crafted from high-quality maple wood.”
Veteran cue sports enthusiast Bruce Cilliers gifted his 43-year-old cue stick to Phumelo Marumulo, the winner of the 2024/2025 Junior SA Blackball Championships U15 singles title.
Marumulo claimed the championship with a 5-3 victory, becoming the last U15 champion in this category, as Billiards South Africa (BSA) plans to discontinue it next year.

Cilliers, a seasoned champion who once defended his Grandmaster title undefeated across two national singles championships, expressed hope that his cue stick would inspire future generations.

“We’ve seen the sport grow, with more young people from diverse backgrounds and genders participating,” he said.

“This stick is a rare find, imported from Canada and crafted from high-quality maple wood. At 75, I’m proud to have accumulated an impressive collection of titles, including SA’s Blackball title, Junior Snooker Colours, and 8-Ball and Blackball Colours.”
Also attending the championships was Yulan Govender, a six-time SA Opens Pool Champion and three-time All African Champion, who joined fellow cue sports legend Cilliers in supporting the event.
