WATCH: Gomora United earns spot in PSL First Division, brings pride to Ekurhuleni
Gomora United Football Club has made history by earning promotion to the Betway Premier Soccer League First Division, giving Ekurhuleni its first professional football team at this level.
Ekurhuleni has officially joined the ranks of municipalities with representation in South Africa’s top football tiers, thanks to the remarkable rise of Gomora United Football Club.
Founded in 2020 by Joe Seanogo, Gomora United began as a grassroots initiative to steer youth away from crime and substance abuse.
Today, the club is celebrating its historic promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship (2024/25 season) to the Betway Premier Soccer League First Division. The team now has its sights set on the elite Premier Soccer League (PSL) division.

The club is affiliated with the Thembisa United Football Association and maintains a close relationship with the South African Football Association.
The City of Ekurhuleni’s MMC for Community Services, councillor Bridget Thusi, praised the team’s achievement, calling it a milestone for the metro and pledging the city’s support.
“What has made Ekurhuleni fall behind other municipalities in sports has been the absence of a PSL-level team. With Gomora United’s promotion, that has now changed,” said Thusi.
“We must all rally behind this team. Gomora United must be supported and endorsed by the City of Ekurhuleni and included in our vision for sporting excellence.”
