women’s month a key to violence

Have you noticed how many women and children are abused, battered and even murdered during this period of celebrating women in our country?

My heart always shudders when I read through newspapers about how women and children often become victims of violence during the months when we celebrate Women’s Month and 16 Days of Activism Against Domestic and Family Violence?

Both these important dates on our national calendar seem to mean absolutely nothing to criminals as they choose this time of the year to commit their evil deeds against women and children. These are the two periods of the year in which women and children, and sometimes, even men, get violently abused by their spouses.

Bringing peace and harmony to families on these two occasions seems to always evaporate into thin air while crime and domestic violence become the order of the day. How much longer must we continue to celebrate these noble events on our national calendar while women, children and men become victims of the very violence and abuse we are trying to highlight?
