A dedicated cop remembered

Mapukata was laid to rest on Saturday, September 3. The funeral service was held at house 8263 Rantsoe Cres Marimba Gardens, Vosloorus.

The Vosloorus SAPS held a memorial service on Wednesday, August 31, to commemorate one of their dedicated police officers who died on August 27.

Lieut Col Elizabeth Busisiwe Mapukata (57) died on Saturday of natural causes.

Most of the speakers praised Mapukata for her hard work and dedication she had shown since she joined the service in 1986.

“I never worked with such a dedicated person in my life. Her work was always up to date. She was not the kind of a person who demanded to be listened to when she spoke and was a good listener too,” said Brigadier Themba Denge.

A friend and colleague to the deceased, Tholakele Woko, praised Mapukata for being the best friend ever.

“I joined the police two months before her. Our friendship became stronger because we had the same values and we both knew that we have parents who we did not want to disappoint. When we finished training we came to work together at Vosloorus Police Station. She was so dedicated and she would never leave her desk unattended, and would never ask for extension of her leave. Instead, she would come back before her leave ended,” said Woko.

Mapukata was laid to rest on Saturday, September 3. The funeral service was held at house 8263 Rantsoe Cres Marimba Gardens, Vosloorus.

Her daughter Ziyanda Mapukata wished her mother’s soul to “rest in peace in the arms of the Almighty”.

She leaves behind behind her daughter Ziyanda, granddaughter Jessica Mapukata (3), and aunt Kicky Cele.
