Katlehong reservists arrest two for unlicensed firearm

A 9mm pistol was found inside the car under the passenger seat. None of the occupants produced a license to possess a firearm.

The Katlehong SAPS conducted a stop-and-search operation in Siphamandla informal settlement on Monday, November 14.

According to the communications officer at Katlehong police station, Capt Mega Ndobe, the operation was a success.

“During the roadblock conducted, the reservists stopped a black Corsa sedan with three occupants inside. The reservists asked to search the car. While the reservists were busy searching the car, one of the occupants managed to escape and run away.

“A 9mm pistol was found inside the car under the passenger seat. None of the occupants produced a licence to possess a firearm.

“The reservists arrested the two suspects for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The firearm was then seized and taken in for ballistics testing and further investigation and to determine whether the same firearm was used in other crimes,” said Ndobe.

Ndobe said the two suspects are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Court soon on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“The police are still looking for the other suspect who ran away,” he said.
