Family of five smashed by truck

Traffic lights were brought down by an FTX truck driver after he slammed into a Peugeot 206 when he travelled north on the Nigel/Springs Road at 19:05 on October 10.
The Peugeot was stationary at the traffic light on the corner of Nigel/Springs Road and Proton Road when the truck smashed into the rear end of the vehicle sending it off into the centre of the intersection after knocking down a traffic light.
After impact the truck driver swerved left over one median, two traffic lights and one street light pole before it came to rest in the opposite field.
The Peugeot was occupied by Loogh and Louise van Jaarsveld together with their three young children Luka (2), Lloyd (2) and Louis (5) who all survived the accident with no serious injuries.
According to eye witnesses the truck driver fled the scene of the accident after Loogh pulled himself from his vehicle and confronted him.
Soon after the Ekurhuleni Metro Police arrived the truck driver returned claiming he feared for his life after he was confronted and resorted to safety until law enforcement arrived.
No arrests had been made as crash investigators will determine the cause of the accident.
