Elderly woman in critical condition after car accident

Marie Reynders (75) is in a critical condition after a Ford Ranger bakkie smashed into her car on the Heidelberg/Nigel Road on October 16.
Marie was travelling east on the Heidelberg/Nigel Road when her vehicle was hit from behind at 15:30.
According to the driver of the bakkie, Marie’s vehicle was stationary in the road and he had no time to weave out and avoid a collision.
He also stated that there was a vehicle travelling in front of him who overtook Marie leaving him blinded moments before impact.
“SAPS Nigel has opened a case of reckless and negligent driving against the vehicle that collided with Marie. We are still on the lookout for eyewitnesses who observed the accident and can deliver statements”, W/O Von Wielligh said.
“According to close friends of Marie, she is a good driver and always kept below the speed limit and they find it difficult to believe that she would have brought her vehicle to a standstill in the middle of a main road”, W/O Von Wielligh added.
Marie was transported to Life Suikerbosrand Clinic and later transferred to the Union Hospital in Alberton. She remains in a critical condition after receiving multiple surgeries to broken bones and to stop internal bleeding that was a result of major trauma and injury to her abdomen.
