NIGEL – Marie Reynders (75) passed away on November 3 after she sustained serious injuries in a collision on the Heidelberg/Nigel Road on October 16.
She was travelling on the Heidelberg/Nigel Road when a Ford Ranger Bakkie collided with her car from behind.
Marie remained in a critical condition after the crash and received several surgical interventions in attempts to stop internal bleeding. However, her condition deteriorated and she passed away on November 3.
According to the driver of the bakkie, Marie’s vehicle was stationary in the road and he had no time to swerve to avoid a collision.
SAPS Nigel Spokesperson W/O Madeleine von Wielligh said it is still unclear how the collision occurred. They only received an incomplete statement from the driver of the bakkie and therefore appeal to witnesses to the accident to come forward.
“The driver of the bakkie was initially charged with reckless and negligent driving, but will now face charges of manslaughter”, W/O Von Wielligh said.
SAPS Nigel request anyone who witnessed the accident to phone 011 812 6500.
