Nigel SPCA has been mopping up many stray animals throughout the town in recent weeks.
Hazel McLuckie said stray/found animals that are admitted to Nigel SPCA, are recorded in the “found” register and must be kept at the kennels for a seven day period. This is to allow the legal owner time to claim their pet back. If the dog or cat is not claimed by the owner, it is then put up for adoption, subject to certain conditions.
“If residents have lost their pets, phone or preferably visit Nigel SPCA as soon as possible to check whether it has been brought to us. It is however the owners’ responsibility to keep in touch with Nigel SPCA regarding their lost pet”, Hazel said.
Nigel SPCA urges owners to ensure their pets have some form of identification like a collar and tag or microchip for easier identification.
“If residents have lost their dog or cat, please visit to check whether it has been brought to Nigel SPCA and remember sterilised pets are less likely to wander from home and get lost”, Hazel concluded.
