Lead SA hero

Stand up. Do the right thing. Make a difference. Three simple concepts that form the core of Lead SA’s rallying cry to all South Africans. These actions are at the heart of Lead SA’s leadership message to both challenge and inspire, to critique and to celebrate. In support of this the organisation established the Youth Hero of the Month concept where a person is identified as a hero in his/her community through heroic actions.
Mohammed Murad who resides in Jameson Park became the most recent Youth Hero of the Month after he played a key role in safeguarding an orphanage from violent burglars.
Mohammed received a tip-off that burglars were planning on striking the orphanage he calls home and informed the local police. The burglars were surprised by a group of police officers and a shoot-out developed. Mohammed was also on the scene and helped the police to bring the criminals to book.
He made a lasting impression on local authorities which inevitably had him voted in as the deputy chairman of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) in the Jameson Park area.
According to Rabiya Lorgat, who nominated him, Mohammed has a burning desire to keep the streets of Jameson Park safe.
“Life has not been easy for him since he grew up without either of his parents. Thanks to his custodians and loved ones he developed a determined and resolute character”, Rabiya added.
Former CPF chairman Goolam Patel said Mohammed is an example of how one should endure difficult times.
“Mohammed grew up with less than most kids, but through his persistent character, accomplished great things for a 21-year old”, Goolam concluded.
The criminals’ trial concluded a few weeks ago, and they have each been sentenced to 10 years in jail.
