Police test their health and wellness to stay on top of their game
Heidelberg Police had their health and wellness tests done on 11 March.
“The police need to be healthy.” That is what police spokesperson Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate said on Heidelberg Police’s wellness day.
Heidelberg Police had all sorts of health tests done on 11 March by the Health on Site company. The company is focused on The South African Police Services in order to test their health and wellness at police stations across the country. “The police do not have time to go to clinics and test their health and wellness,” Capt Tshilate continued. “Therefor, the Health on site company visits stations and test police members’ blood pressure, cholestrol, sight, hearing, lung function and psychological well being to name a few.”
Professional nurse Nomhle Maguga said that police often forget about their own wellness. “It is important that they look after themselves. We are here to provide them with tests to make sure they are healthy and capable to do their jobs.” The programme is called Indlela to good health, which means “on the way to good health”. “That is what this initiative strives for,” Maguga said.
According to Captain Tshilate, police members provide a better service to the community when they are healthy and have healthy minds.
