School security compromised after driver crashed through wall

NIGEL - The driver of a Ford Bantam bakkie is fortunate to be alive, after crashing through the wall and security gate of Nigel High School in York Street.

The accident occurred around 00:30 on August 26 and was witnessed by a security guard from the filling station opposite the school. He said the driver was trying to make a u-turn in front of the school, when he lost control and crashed through the wall and rotating steel gate of the school.

The injured driver was later taken to hospital by a local ambulance.

A security guard from a local filling station described how the driver of a speeding bakkie lost control and came crashing through the wall and security gate of Nigel High School in the early hours of the morning on August 26. The estimated damage amounts to around R100 000.
