Local businessman among VIP guests at opening of school in Eastern Cape

NIGEL - Fernando Perneta, well-known local businessman and director of Bhayi Khetya Trading (Pty) Ltd (the rail company refurbishing metro rail coaches for PRASA) and his wife Mercia were invited as honourable guests of chief Mandla Mandela for the launch of the Makgatho Lewanika Mandela Primary School in the late Madiba’s birthplace, Mvezo - Eastern Cape.

The event took place on August 25 and amongst guests were local and international dignitaries including president Jacob Zuma, Miss World – Rolene Strauss, basic education minister Angie Motshekga, education MEC Mandla Makupula and premier Phumulo Masualle.

Flanked by chief Mandla Mandela, president Jacob Zuma officially unveiled the school to much fanfare. The President also praised chief Mandla Mandela and the Mvezo Community for their focus on education.

Chief Mandla Mandela feels humbled by the fact that the school is named after his late father, Makgatho Lewanika Mandela. Mr and Mrs Perneta said they are honoured to be part of such a memorable occasion.
