Army official killed in car crash
NIGEL - A 59 year old offcial from 1 Regiment Construction Marievale was killed in a collision on the R42 on September 9.

NIGEL – The dangerous Dunnottar military base crossing on the R42 between Nigel and Springs claimed another life on September 9.
Sgt Major John Lehutso (59) was instantly killed when the driver of a delivery truck that was travelling in the direction of Nigel, collided with his Nissan bakkie as he crossed the intersection. It occurred around 12:30, after Sgt Major Lehutso collected medication from a pharmacy at the Dunnottar military base.
The impact of the collision sent his bakkie over the edge of the road to a downwards angle of a steep hill, while the truck driver was flung through the windscreen of his vehicle and landed on the road. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
Staff sgt Gavin Kruger, Operational Emergency Care Practitioner at the military base, told HERAUT that the army community is outraged over the number of deaths that occur at the intersection every year and that they have been pleading for the erection of a four-way stop or traffic light for years.
