Lesedi Local Municipality urges residents to use water sparingly

Lesedi area not yet in dire straits, but residents must adopt culture of using water wisely.

Water restrictions have not yet been implemented in Lesedi Local Municipality, but seeing that South Africa has been hit by the worst drought since 1992, the municipality urges the community to use water sparingly.
Due to the prolonged lower than normal rainfall since the beginning of the year, drought conditions are being experienced across the country. The rainfall recorded by the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) during the month of September until the middle of October revealed that early spring has not yielded the anticipated rainfall.
“In view of these conditions, residence throughout our municipality are urged to use water sparingly in order to normalise the water supply,” Arthur Thokoane (spokesperson) of Lesedi Local Municipality said.
He said although the municipal area has not yet been hit negatively by the drought, LLM wants to educated its residents to adopt a culture of using water wisely.
LLM is urging residents and businesses to follow the following measures to help save water:
No filling of swimming pools;
No watering of gardens between 06:00 and 18:00 and rather make use of grey water when watering your garden.
Don’t use a hose pipe when washing your vehicle.
LLM are asking residents to report any leaks in the water supply system to their water and sewer department on 016 392 0063/0070/0211.
