MacKenzieville youth supports operation hydrate
NIGEL - The youth in MacKenzieville set out to town on the morning of January 23 with the aim of assisting operation hydrate.
This initiative encouraged the youth to get involved in projects for the improvement of the community, as well as enlightening them on South Africa’s current water crisis. The project allowed young children to get socially involved in matters concerning not only the community but also the planet.
Organisers of the project asked each child to sell items or collect donations. Groups of children went around MacKenzieville and Nigel with placards stating the aim of operation hydrate and requested support from local community members.
Organisers initially aimed at collecting enough funds to purchase at least one pallet of bottled water at a cost of R1176.00 (112 5 liter bottles), but to their astonishment they successfully collected enough money to purchase an entire truck load.
All funds were deposited into operation hydrate’s account, who then distributed the water to areas such as Vryburg, Northern Cape and the Freestate. Organisers said it was a successful initiative because of the effort put in by the youth involved and the assistance of those who supported the project through donations.
