Truck driver escapes with life after attempted hi-jacking
He managed to drive off and was helped by residents of Heidelberg.
A truck driver was air lifted to the Netcare Union Hospital in Alberton after suspects opened fire and wounded him in a suspected hi-jacking incident on the N3. The incident happened on February 22 (after dark) near Villiers.
The driver managed to drive to De Hoek Toll Plaza. According to Danie Knoetze the tracking company contacted him to help them find the truck that was moving in Heidelberg’s direction. Danie found the seriously injured man at the toll plaza and summoned local paramedics.
He was taken to Laer Volkskool’s rugby field where Netcare 911’s helicopter air lifted him to Alberton. According to Heidelberg police, the man sustained five bullet wounds in his upper legs, right arm and hand. The incident is being investigated by Villiers Police.
