Detective Sergeant Happy Kubheka was stabbed in the stomach and repeatedly beaten by two assailants when he ran to assist a woman in need. The detective said he and a friend were driving in his private vehicle at around 20:30 in Protea Road, Ratanda when he heard a woman screaming.
He saw two men trying to push a woman into a vehicle and stopped to help her. When the suspects saw him, they jumped into the vehicle (with the woman inside) and drove towards the hostels where they stopped.
Kubheka followed and confronted them. He identified himself as a police officer and told the suspects that they must release the woman. They started swearing at him and attacked Kubheka and his friend with their fists and a knopkierie.
The next moment Kubheka felt the stab wound to his stomach. The suspects grabbed his fire arm and cell phone and fled. He was taken to Life Suikerbosrand Hospital where he received 20 stitches to his wound. He was released on Tuesday.
Kubheka’s fire arm was later brought in to Ratanda Police Station.
