An arsonist targerted two Ratanda schools within 24 hours of each other last week when papers in clasrooms of Lethabo Siyanqoba Primary School as well as Bertha Gxoba Primary School in Extension 23 were set alight. The fire at Bertha Gxowa Primary School on January 3 was discovered in time before it could do much damage, but the classroom at Lethabo Siyanqoba Primary School was totally destroyed when papers in a cabinet were also set alight on January 4.
The perpetrator gained entry to the grounds by cutting a hole in the steel palisade fence at the back of the school.
Mrs Kate Rakitla (MMC: Community Services) of Lesedi Local Municipality said she is shocked that someone can be so cruel and irresponsible to destroy property that is used to educate children.
