An armed robbery occurred at a diesel depot in Springs Road on October 8.
According to police spokesperson Sgt Nellie Dwaba, four suspects reportedly entered the guard room on the premises around 01:10, where they instructed the security officers that were on duty to lie down on the floor where their hands were tied with shoe laces. One of the suspects was armed, but his face was covered with a cloth. While aiming at the security guards, he demanded the keys to a store room and asked the security guards where the new truck tyres are kept. After some time, a security reaction response vehicle arrived at the premises and the suspects reportedly fled into the dark. Sgt Dwaba said that although CCTV footage of the robbery is available, the identity of the suspects is difficult to determine. The investigation continues.
A burglary occurred at a business in Second Street on October 9, where three computers (with monitors) were stolen. The alarm system had also been damaged during the break-in and according to Sgt Dwaba, the estimated total loss and damage amounts to around R63 000.
Another burglary occurred at a business situated in Industria on October 10. Several computers, a grinder with cutting discs and cleaning material were reported stolen.
Police are investigating a case of theft after an incident which occurred at Hallgate on October 10.
According to Sgt Dwaba a suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of and selling a number of tyres and rims which did not belong to him. The tyres and rims were later identified by its owner and the suspect was charged with theft.
A spare wheel was stolen off a parked vehicle at a factory situated in Commercial Crescent in Vorsterskroon on October 10.
Two people were arrested and charged with theft after they were found in possession of stolen property inside their vehicle at a local transport business in Station Road, Pretoriusstad.
The incident occurred on October 10 when a security guard reportedly asked to search the suspects’ vehicle when they were about to exit the business premises. After he discovered pieces of cut up aluminum that were hidden under a towel in the boot of the vehicle, he phoned his foreman who then alerted the police. The suspects are expected to appear in Nigel Magistrate’s Court soon.
A burglary occurred at a house in Von Geusau Street on October 11 where a laptop, television, Sony playstation, decoders and jewellery worth around R13 900 were reported stolen.
Police arrested one person for driving under the influence of alcohol in Balfour Road near Alrapark on October 11. According to Sgt Dwaba the driver was flagged down by a police officer around 22:15. Upon closer inspection, the police officer noted four passengers inside the vehicle and instructed the driver to step out. He was however, unable to get out and reeked of alcohol. The police officer also discovered several bottles of beer inside and called the police station for back-up. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital where his blood alcohol level was tested.
A 16-year-old boy was robbed at knife point while walking in the road in Alrapark on October 12.
The complainant told police he was pushing his bicycle when two men approached him from the side and while threatening to stab him with a knife, robbed him of his cellphone.
A suspect was arrested for possession of drugs in Somerset Street on October 13.
When police searched the suspect, they found several small packets containing rock and nyaope. He was charged accordingly and is expected to appear in Nigel Magistrate’s Court soon.
A burglary occurred at a house in Steenie Street on October 14 where tools and machinery to the value of around R2 000 were reportedly stolen.
