DUNNOTTAR – Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Duduza Precinct officers successfully recovered a vehicle within two hours after it was reported hijacked.

According to EMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent  Wilfred Kgasago, the incident occurred on November 10 and Duduza EMPD swiftly responded to a report by a vehicle tracking company about an Isuzu bakkie that was hijacked around 14:00 at Dunnottar.

“Metro Police officers Zhane Fortuin and Jacques du Plessis sprang into action and were able to locate the hijacked vehicle in an open field near Dunnottar plots, while it was travelling in the direction of Sharon Park,” Chief Supt Kgasago said.

After they managed to bring the speeding vehicle to a stop, a 25-year-old suspect was arrested. He reportedly told the officers that the vehicle was left in his care by two people from Daveyton, to locate and remove its tracking unit.

The recovered vehicle was later transported to SAPS Van Ryn Deep in Benoni for further investigation. The suspect was detained at SAPS Dunnottar after being charged with possession of a hijacked vehicle. He was expected to appear in the Dunnottar Magistrate’s Court on November 12.
