Lesedi to decide fate of community of underprivileged land occupiers
Meeting to take place today at Town Hall.
Lesedi Local Municipality (LLM) will today engage with 100’s of community members who forcefully occupied the Shalimar Ridge Community Housing Project and Obed Nkosi development.
The meeting will take place at the Town Hall from 14:00.
The outcome of this meeting will determine whether, among others, nine-year-old Khanyisile Tshabalala and her mother Nomvula Ncoco (43) will have a roof over their heads.
Khanyisile is wheelchair bound due to a severe disability and has moved into one of the Shalimar Ridge apartments with her mother.
Although there is no running water or electricity in the apartment, they still feel they are far better off than in the Extension 23 shack which they rented.
“We hope that if we have to leave this place, they will provide us with alternative accommodation,” said Nomvula.
“I just hope the Mayor is kind and does not put us on the street”.
This is a developing story, more information to follow.
