Businesses join forces to expand bathroom at children’s home

Home now in position to apply for government funding thanks to expansions

The lives of the children from Galaxy Children’s Village was changed for the better when several businesses in town joined forces and raised funds to build two new bathrooms.

Life inside a children’s home can be difficult at best, but if you throw in the fact that 14 children had to share one bathroom for years, this act of kindness is placed into perspective. Another huge boost for Galaxy Children’s Village is that with the new improvements, this non-profit organisation now also qualifies for government funding.

Housemother Theresia van Eyssen could not thank the businesses who contributed enough. “The gratitude we have towards these businesses and each and every person involved can never be expressed in words. This project has made it possible for our home to apply for much needed government funding,” Van Eyssen said.

The project was headed by Peter Weerheim, principal of Just Property Heidelberg and Nigel. When asked what his drive behind the project was Weerheim said that he had a need to do something for the community.

“I immediately thought about Galaxy Children’s Village. A few years ago on our 67 minutes for Mandela Day we did some much needed repair work to the home’s playground. I knew that Galaxy Children’s Village needed more love and care, so with fellow big hearted and avid local businesses, this project was launched.”

The end result – two beautiful bathrooms each consisting of a shower, toilet, basin and accessories enabling the home to apply for much needed government funding.
