Stargazing at Marievale Nature Reserve
The Friends of Marievale Nature Reserve will host the well known stargazing event at the picnic site in the Marievale Nature Reserve on May 25 at 16:00.
Stan Madden will tell visitors about the reserve’s aquatic birds on a guided walk through the reserve at 16:30. Visitors will then get the chance to participate in the bring-and-braai where fires will be provided. As soon as the sun sets, Andrew Helston (well known astronomer) will talk to visitors about the night skies. A large telescope will be available to view the planets, nebula and various stars.
Visitors are reminded to bring their own refreshments, torches and camping chairs. It is also advisable to wear warm clothing. To cover expenses, Friends of Marievale Nature Reserve will ask a donation of R50 per car. There will also be a lucky draw where a visitor will win an exquisite hamper. All the takings will go to maintaining the facilities of Marievale Nature Reserve.
The entrance to the reserve is situated on the R42 between Nigel and Delmas on the left immediately after crossing the Blesbok River. Note that the entrance through the Marievale mine is closed.
