Nigel Library’s door fixed at last
The library had to face the threat of burglary and vandalism for a year due to the front door being broken down. Labuschagne was informed of the library’s constant maintenance and repair struggle and he took immediate action.
The Nigel Library’s front door has finally been replaced after being broken for more than a year. DA Councillor Wollaston Labuschagne took immediate action after he received word of the conditions of the Nigel Library.
The library had to face the threat of burglary and vandalism for a year due to the front door being broken down. Labuschagne was informed of the library’s constant maintenance and repair struggle and he took immediate action.
“A councillor’s job is to take care of his ward’s facilities and the Nigel Library is part of my ward,” Cllr Labuschagne said. A local company was appointed to fix the door.
The Nigel VLU branch launched a gardening project at the library in 2018 and rehabilitated the library’s garden. They planted flowers and styled the garden to give it an attractive appearance, but the garden is apparently not being maintained. There is also issues with roof leakages which damage books.
The library struggled for three months with its IT system. The system allowed readers to rent books, but whenever they were returned, the system didn’t accept the books back.
“The books started piling up and at one stage. Fortunately, programmers were sent to fix the system and now it works perfectly,” explained the librarian.
