Alstom Ubunye celebrates the life of Mandela at Thakgalang Primary School

Alstom Ubunye employees spent their day honouring Nelson Mandela’s legacy with a project at Thakgalang Primary School in Duduza on July 18. The project involved toilet and bathroom refurbishments and the aim was to provide dignity to the learners by providing them the basic human right of privacy.

 
A team of employees spent a week at the school to do refurbishments to the bathrooms and employees donated toilet paper, sanitary pads and soap. The Alstom Ubunye team fixed and installed doors ensuring that toilet cubicles are private and lockable. They further ensured that basins for washing hands were functional and cleaned and painted dirty walls in a brighter colour.

Alstom has developed a manufacturing hub in Ekurhuleni for the Southern African railway industry. The brand new Gibela factory is the largest in Africa, and Alstom has invested a significant amount in the modernisation of the 80000m2 Alstom Ubunye factory in Nigel.

 
The executive mayor of the City of Ekurhuleni, Mzwandile Masina, recently said that the 25-year Aerotropolis master plan has ambitions to turn the Ekurhuleni region into a major economic hub. The Ekurhuleni Aerotropolis is Africa’s first aerotropolis that links Africa to the world, and the world to Africa. In line with this, Alstom Ubunye (a South African Rail company) is committed to the support of socio-economic development, development of local skills and supporting the local industry over a very long term.
