Truck up in flames
A small truck and its load were engulfed in flames after the brakes caught fire on December 3.
Traffic to Heidelberg was brought to a standstill when a small truck was engulfed in flames after the brakes caught fire on December 3. Rudy George (42) was driving behind the truck on the R550 around 12:30 in the direction of Heidelberg when he noticed smoke emerging from the back of the vehicle.
“I started hooting and flashing at the driver and indicated that there is a problem with his vehicle. He then stopped and the rear brakes of the truck caught fire,” he said. The driver attempted to extinguish the fire, but with little success.
The diesel tank caught fire and within minutes the entire truck was surrounded with blazing flames. The City of Ekurhuleni Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire, but it was too late for the truck as only debris remained after the truck and its load were destroyed in seconds.
