How to report corruption or register a complaint against EMPD

Have you encountered a corrupt EMPD officer, or do you wish to report any misconduct by an EMPD officer?

Members from the community who wishes to report corruption or lodge a complaint against the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) or any EMPD officer’s conduct, are at liberty to do so by:

  1. phoning the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) anti-corruption hotline at 0800 102201; or
  2. dialling 112 from your cellphone and opt for the SAPS anti-corruption unit; or
  3. dialling the SAPS emergency number on 10111 and reporting the matter.

Members from the community can also visit the EMPD precinct in Nigel at 33 Somerset Street between 08:00 and 15h30, to register a complaint.

“Ask to speak with the precinct commander, a deputy or senior officer in charge,” Kobeli Mokheseng (EMPD acting chief superintendent and media spokesperson) said.

Complaints can also be registered at the EMPD head office in Kempton Park (corner of Long and Margaret Street) during week days, where the complainant should request assistance from internal affairs or from the Integrity and Standards Unit.

Mokheseng advised that the complainant will have to submit a written statement or affidavit comprising of full details to enable the internal affairs team to investigate the matter.

A hearing date will then be set and the presiding officer will be given a verdict, based on the outcome.
