British American Tobacco is working on Covid-19 vaccine

British American Tobacco (BAT) has announced that its Kentucky bio processing unit in America is working on a plant based potential vaccine for Covid-19.
They are using proteins extracted from tobacco leaves and BAT says their fast growing technology is putting them far ahead of others.
Johnny Moloto (BAT SA’s head of external affairs) says although it is early days yet, they believe that tobacco plants promises to have a far quicker turnaround if it is successful than what you normally use to develop vaccines.
“It is still early days, but if it is successful we hope to start producing with the support from government agencies and manufacturers as early as June,” Moloto said.
