Starting from May 2020 SASSA has announced as an adjusted period of payment for social grant beneficiaries.

“When a social grant is paid into beneficiaries’ SASSA cards or personal banking accounts on the third day of the month, it is not a must for the recipient to collect their grant on the day that it has been paid as this causes overcrowding. Beneficiaries can choose to collect their grant later in the month when there are fewer activities” Zodwa Mvulane (SASSA Gauteng regional executive manager) said.

June 3 is a day that Sassa will be paying older persons to be followed by persons with disabilities from June 4.

These payments will be done with those of children linked to the beneficiary.  This does not mean the elderly and the disabled will be unable to collect their grants on any day after 3 and 4 June. This will be followed by payment of all other children’s grants that will be paid from 5 June onwards.

Payment dates are staggered to ensure that these categories of beneficiaries are protected from month end rush at payment outlets.

Sassa would like to further advice grant recipients that they do not have to withdraw their social grants on the first day of payment.  Once the money is in the beneficiary’s account it will remain in the card for a period of three months.

There is no need to rush to withdraw cash on the first day.

Beneficiaries are encouraged to utilise different forms of grants collection offered by the Agency such as SAPO outlets (Post Offices), merchants (Shops) and ATMs to collect their grant.
