Mother-to-daughter dialogue held in Simphiwe Village
Research shows that domestic violence against women remains widespread and under-reported.
Ongoing campaigns to voice anger towards violence against women and children are taking place and ways of making homes and communities safe for all, especially for women and children, is a key focus area for the SAPS.
The Heidelberg SAPS, with Gauteng Department of Community Safety, Lesedi Traffic, Department of Social Development, girls from Simphiwe Village-Sedaven and their mothers, conducted a mother-to-daughter dialogue on December 4 based on gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide.
The dialogue was part of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign.
Good behavioural attitude, how to avoid peer pressure and making good life choices were among the discussion points. Girls were sensitised to avoid teenage pregnancies and to consider education very seriously.
Legislative provisions in place that specifically address violence and abuse of women and children was also discussed and the importance of reporting any form of violence was emphasised.
