Man found in possession of drugs arrested

Sgt Harry Manaka from Duduza SAPS said police arrested a drug dealer in Dunnottar on January 11.

The suspect was arrested along Nigel Road at around 9 am just as he was delivering drugs to his customers.
He was found in possession of khat.

The police have been on the heels of the drug peddler for some time as he is believed to be behind the distribution of most drugs in the areas of Duduza and Dunnottar.

Through a joint collaboration between the Duduza and Dunnottar SAPS, the man was arrested and drugs, as well as cash believed to be proceeds of the drugs sold, were found and confiscated.

Also found in his possession were a number of cellphones which are believed to have been exchanged for drugs. The man is expected to appear in Nigel Magistrate’s Court soon.

Hijackings are also on the rise and Duduza SAPS is appealing to the community to beware of criminals that are targeting unsuspecting people sitting in their vehicles and robbing them of belongings and also hijacking the cars.

This comes after a number of hijackings were reported at the Duduza Police Station. In a space of three days, two vehicles were hijacked in the area.

On January 5, the owner of a BMW was sitting with his girlfriend in the car when two men approached them and pointed a firearm at them before robbing them of their cellphones and cash.

A day later the owner of a Toyota Hilux who was also sitting in the car with his girlfriend was robbed of cash and cellphones before they were forced out of the vehicle by two armed men who drove away with the vehicle.

The criminals target vehicles parked on pavements with occupants and hijack them.

The police wish to emphasise that people should avoid parking and sitting inside vehicles, especially after dark.

While the police are looking for these criminals and have increased visibility and other crime-prevention measures, the community is advised to take extra precautions by being extra vigilant.

Anyone with information that can assist the police to arrest these criminals is urged to call the Duduza police on 071 675 7027 or SAPS Crime Stop on 0800 10111.
