GALLERY: Alrapark Damduikers share bait secrets
Alrapark Damduikers is an angling club started in 2020 by a group of angling lovers.
“We have fished together for some time and felt the need to get more serious about the sport,” Dominic Magalhaus, spokesperson, said.
The team visits dams across the country and have hooked a few big ones at local dams in Nigel, Blesbokspruit, and Struisbult.
On the weekend of January 23 the group visited the Vaal at UJ grounds where they once again waited to hook the big one.
“We did not catch a lot but it was once again an enjoyable day out in nature,” Magalhaus said.
Magalhaus went fishing from the age of 10 and although soccer is his number one sport, he is a committed angler.
He tells about how he was taught from a young age how to handle a fishing rod and the different types of bait.
“My favourite recipe for bait is a soft float with a backing of dough and adding some fruit flavours of which ‘perdeby’ is a definite. Every fisherman has his own secrets but what works today might not necessarily work tomorrow,” Magalhaus said.
His personal best catches is a 12kg carp and a 15kg barbel.
“I encourage youngsters to partake in fishing. It stimulates the mind and there is lots of excitement next to the water. It also keeps them off the streets and safe,” Magalhaus added.
Alrapark Damduikers are looking for sponsors to take their love for fishing to the next level and enter more competitions.
