
Upon arrival, police found three injured victims from the same family inside the house. Seven armed men entered their house while they were in the lounge. The suspects were reportedly wearing balaclavas.
The family was held at gunpoint and were assaulted by the suspects, who demanded cash. Two of the victims were reportedly tied up with cords, while the homeowner was taken by the suspects to where the safe is and forced to open it.
A few moments later, there was a loud bang inside the house and all suspects reportedly ran out with some coins they stole from a money box, leaving behind the three victims.
Upon arrival by the Balfour SAPS, the victims received medical assistance, with the homeowner being taken to hospital.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects; no one has been arrested as yet.
Police urged anyone with information that can assist in apprehending the suspects to contact Det Const Sfiso Tsotetsi on 076 427 3648. Alternatively, members of the public can call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or send information via the MYSAPS app.
All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.
Balfour police also warned the community about theft of cars in the residential area of Balfour and surroundings.
Several cases of theft of cars have been opened and investigations are underway.
The community is requested to report any suspicious-looking vehicles to the police and must always be alert of unknown persons within their area.
Balfour SAPS station commander Lt-Col LA Khoabane asked for joint crime fighting among the community. He said without help from the community, police alone will not manage to eradicate all crimes patterns happening within their policing area.
