Heidelberg SAPS clamp down on crime with arrests, convictions
The Heidelberg SAPS recorded multiple arrests and three significant convictions in the past two weeks, highlighting its continued fight against crime.
The Heidelberg SAPS reported several arrests and convictions for the two weeks ending on September 14.
The offences ranged from drug possession and shoplifting to carjacking, rape and statutory rape. Detectives also secured three significant convictions for violent crimes.
The arrests were for:
• Drug possession (10);
• Contravention of immigration laws (7);
• Tendering counterfeit money (1);
• Shoplifting (3);
• Residential burglary (2);
• Vehicle overload (one);
• Driving under the influence (10);
• Common assault (two);
• Statutory rape (one);
• Contravention of a protection order (one);
• Reckless and negligent driving (two);
• Carjacking and kidnapping (one);
• Pointing a firearm (one);
• Assault GBH (one);
• Malicious damage to property (one);
• Possession of stolen property (one);
• Domestic violence-related assault GBH (one);
• Rape (one);
• Possession and dealing in drugs (three).
The service secured three convictions. One offender found guilty of house robbery, kidnapping, and hijacking received an 11-year sentence.
Another was convicted of house robbery and received an eight-year sentence, with three years suspended.
A third offender was convicted of house robbery, kidnapping, and carjacking, receiving an eight-year sentence with three years suspended for five years.
Detective Sergeant Musa Maluleke secured the convictions.
