A swift response by community safety organisations, private security companies and the SAPS has resulted in the arrest of two suspects following a burglary at Laerskool Tini Vorster in Nigel.

The break-in occurred on July 27 when an alarm at the school alerted Nigel Civil Protection patrollers, who immediately responded to the scene.

According to information released by the safety teams, the suspects fled in a red vehicle after the burglary. Patrollers pursued the vehicle, but it initially evaded capture.

An alert was subsequently circulated to law enforcement and community safety structures.

Further inspection of the school revealed that 17 classrooms had been broken into.

The suspects allegedly targeted projectors but also stole a variety of other valuable items, including school stationery.

Some stolen property, together with burglary tools believed to have been used during the break-in, was recovered at the school.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen from the school.

Information gathered during the investigation led officers to various premises in Vosloorus, where additional stolen property was recovered.

Authorities said some of the recovered items had reportedly already been packed and were ready to be transported to Mozambique.

A second vehicle linked to the stolen property was also seized during the operation.

The successful operation involved Nigel Civil Protection, the Ekurhuleni Thatha-Zonke Anti-Crime Unit/Kathorus Crime Watch, Nigel SAPS, Vosloorus SAPS, Graphite Security, Nhlangwini Solutions, Emis Security and Fidelity ADT Security.
