Nigel Methodist Church ends year on high note

The church is 120 years old.

The Nigel Methodist Church (NMC) ended the year on December 10 with the second Sunday of Advent.

The service also concluded the church’s 120th anniversary celebrations.

The church was established on March 14, 1903, when the first foundation stones were laid. The Freemasons started the process and built the religious sanctuary for the residents of Nigel.

Pastor Albert Stewart opened and led the service.

In his message, Stewart said, “Christmas is not only for rejoicing but also for reflection. Life is a journey worth travelling. We are not insufficient. We can all be more self-sufficient and give more of ourselves to others. We must each open our eyes and minds to ensure all the roads become straighter and that obstacles can be overcome.”

Attendees enjoyed various musical interludes during the service with pianist and baritone Christian van Zyl, pianist Paddy Jeffrey, Hoërskool John Vorster’s Harmonique Choir and a duet with Christian and Lana-Mari van Zyl.
Toekie Tieghi lit a candle of remembrance for friends and family members who have passed on.

Stewart concluded, “We look forward to the future at NMC and what the future has to offer. We are ready to welcome it with open arms. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the celebratory year a success. Together, the impossible can become possible.”
