Nigel Retirement Village hosts heartwarming festival feast and fundraiser
The Nigel Retirement Village came alive with colour and community spirit as residents, visitors, and supporters gathered for the annual Festival Feast and fundraising event
The Nigel Retirement Village held its annual Festival Feast and fundraising event on October 31, bringing together residents, visitors, and supporters for a day of community, generosity, and celebration.
According to Andrew Watts, Nigel Retirement Village chairperson, the festival has become a much-loved tradition.

“At the end of every October, we host a festival feast where we sell a variety of items such as food, clothing, art, household equipment, and electronic devices.
“All the elderly residents donate items they no longer need, and we sell the items at affordable prices.

“Many visitors from outside come by, and all the money from the sales goes back to supporting the elderly with lodging and other basic needs.
“We currently have 160 residents living here. The women enjoy needlework and crocheting, while the men have their own hobbies to keep them busy,” said Watts.

Bets van der Nest, chairperson of the retirement village, expressed gratitude to the community for their continued support.
“We thank everyone who supports this initiative. Elderly people are important members of our society, and they should be cherished.”
A resident, Brandt Strydom, shared a heartfelt message: “I wish everyone the best and a happy festive season.”

A local vendor, Teliza Botha, also encouraged community involvement.

“I’m selling a variety of beautiful items, from clothes and stationery to handbags. I urge people to support this initiative. To the elderly, I want to say we love you and thank you for the example and foundation you have set,” she said.
