Cambridge FC roars back in Hollywood Bets League

The Cambridge Football Club bounced back from a disappointing defeat with a 3-1 home victory over the Goal Getters FC in a Hollywood Bets League match.

The Cambridge Football Club returned to winning form with a solid 3-1 win over the Goal Getters FC.

The match, held at the Bridges as part of the Hollywood Bets League, saw the home side dominate their visitors from Bonaero Park on November 8.

Cambridge needed to regroup and bounce back after their humiliating loss the previous week.

The home team started slowly, and the Goal Getters initially dominated possession. After a defensive error, Cambridge conceded an early goal, which was a wake-up call for the home team.

Cambridge fought back, weaving through the visiting defence, and Banele ‘Battery’ Mashinini equalised with a long-range strike. That sparked new energy in Cambridge, which took control of possession and combinations.
Just before halftime, Bonolo ‘Khama’ Nekedi scored for Cambridge.

When the second half got underway, the Goal Getters created several chances, but through strong defensive work, they could not find the back of Cambridge’s net.

The home coach made tactical substitutions to bring fresh legs onto the pitch. Both teams pressed forward when in possession but struggled to break the second-half deadlock.

In the 75th minute, Nekedi scored his second goal to seal victory for Cambridge.

Last week’s loss has been laid to rest, and Cambridge can now build momentum.

“We are happy with the win, but there is still a lot of work to be done for the team to reach its full potential. We will work on it at training,” said Cambridge coach Kamohelo Siyabonga Motloung.

“It’s a much-needed win, as we are not used to dropping points at home. We need to start collecting points away from home, but there is room for improvement,” said Ignatius Maphike, the Cambridge chairperson.

“Lastly, we thank our supporters for always backing us at home games.”
