Cambridge FC struggles at home against Benoni Northerns

Cambridge FC's home dominance falters as they settle for a draw against Benoni Northerns.

Cambridge FC hosted Benoni Northerns at MacKenzieville Stadium on November 29, with the match kicking off at 13:00.

Despite their efforts, Cambridge had to settle for a 1-1 draw, dropping valuable points on home turf.

Cambridge dominated play in the first half by attacking their opponents’ goal and keeping possession of the ball.
Benoni waited patiently and tried to catch the home team on the counterattack.

With all the possession the Bridges enjoyed, they just could not break the deadlock to score the vital first goal. Both teams remained scoreless in the first half.

In the second half, Cambridge continued where they left off. Benoni changed tactics by pushing Cambridge back and forcing the Bridges to play on the back foot.

That allowed Benoni to get the first goal on the board from a counterattack that stunned the home team and the vocal crowd.

Cambridge’s coach, Kamohelo Motloung, had to make tactical changes and bring new players onto the field.

Hope flickered when a penalty was awarded to Cambridge in Benoni’s 18-yard area.

With 10 minutes left in the match, Nkosana Ndati converted the penalty into a goal. With no further scores, the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

“I’m not happy with my players today. They never showed up, and their body language showed it. This only happens when I don’t have a full complement of players at training. I hope they learned a lesson,” said Motloung.

“The boys never came to the party, even though we dominated possession. The reality is that goals win matches. We can’t drop points at home to be a force in the league.

“We have to win at all costs. Now it’s back to the drawing board. We want to thank our supporters who never gave up on us,” said Ignatius Maphike, Cambridge FC chairperson.
