HDTA fires driver after passenger assault

The Heidelberg and District Taxi Association dismissed a driver and strengthened its safety measures after a passenger was allegedly assaulted, urging the community to help the police with the investigation.

The Heidelberg and District Taxi Association (HDTA) took decisive action after an one of its drivers allegedly assaulted a passenger.

The association said the safety and dignity of commuters remain its priority.

The incident was recently brought to the HDTA’s attention, prompting it to launch an internal investigation. The HDTA confirmed that the driver involved was dismissed, and the taxi owner linked to the vehicle is co-operating with the ongoing investigation.

The HDTA said it has a strict code of conduct for all drivers and members, and added that violence or any form of misconduct will not be tolerated.

The HDTA Women’s League contacted the affected passenger to ensure their emotional and physical well-being during the process.

As part of its response, the HDTA is strengthening its safety oversight and enforcement mechanisms to prevent similar incidents.

The association noted that the driver was permanently removed from HDTA operations following confirmation of misconduct.

The HDTA is also working with the SAPS and encourages witnesses and the passenger involved to assist law enforcement.
