Cambridge FC breaks away hurdle with 2-0 win over Legends FC
After disappointing draws, Cambridge showed energy and precision to beat the Legends 2-0 on the road.
The Cambridge Football Club produced a solid performance to claim a 2-0 win against the Legends Football Club in their Hollywood Bets League encounter in Thembisa on January 31.
The Bridges needed to bounce back from disappointing draws the previous weekend, so they registered new players to bolster their attacking game, and it paid off.
Cambridge has a poor away record, especially in Thembisa.
They started the match on a high, intent on breaking the hoodoo. Nigel’s boys dominated and showed energy and hunger compared to their previous games, which often had slow starts.

They created two early scoring chances, but could not find the back of the net in the first five minutes.
The Legends FC tried to create opportunities, but Cambridge proved too strong.
The opening goal came in the 38th minute when Bridges found the breakthrough.
The second half was rather similar, as Cambridge circulated the ball neatly from the back. Their dominance led to multiple opportunities, but being clinical in front of goals was the order of the day.
Team discipline was visible when they ran down the clock by keeping possession. The Legends FC pushed more players forward in search of an equaliser, which left them open at the back. Cambridge launched a counter-attack and doubled their score with a good strike, making it 2-0 with 15 minutes to play.

The Nigel team played a tactical match from then on, using their wingers to run at the Legends’ full-backs. In the absence of the head coach, the assistant coach and injured team captain, Banele Mkwanzi, managed the team.
“It’s a good result away from home, given our poor away form. I give credit to the boys. They played for the badge and showed they can compete at this level,” said assistant coach Mbuso Mbongeleni Mswane.
Chairperson Ignatius Maphike added, “We are happy with the points, but can improve. The club will now play home games at Jim Fourche in Nigel due to poor supporter attendance at the McKenzieville Stadium.”
