Ethiopian citizen near Secunda Taxi Rank

A group of men assaulted shop assistant until he died.

SECUNDA – Mr Muhamedaman Sultan (30), an Ethiopian citizen, was killed near the local taxi rank on Saturday, 26 October.

W/O Thulani Gamede, spokesman for the local police, said he was abducted by about 15 men in a white taxi at about 10am from the shop in eMbalenhle at Extension 25 where he worked as an assistant.

He was with his employer and co-employee inside the tuck shop when the incident took place.

W/O Gamede said the men were carrying sticks and sjamboks and got off the taxi and entered the tuck shop where they assaulted Mr Sultan.

“While some were assaulting him, others stole money, cigarettes and airtime vouchers in the shop and the total value of the stolen items is R8 000.

They forced Mr Sultan inside the taxi and drove off.

“They drove to the taxi rank in Secunda where they assaulted him further until he was unconscious,” said W/O Gamede.

A woman was also assaulted and robbed of her cell phone which she was using to record the men while they assaulted Mr Sultan.

“There were about a hundred people standing around the deceased who was unconscious with injuries to the head and body when we arrived at the scene.

“We could not identify who the deceased’s assailants were,” said W/O Gamede.
