SPCA presses charges against animal cruelty

SPCA presses charges of animal cruelty.

KINROSS – The Highveld Ridge SPCA opened and won a case of cruelty to animals against CJL Passano of Kinross Veiling CC.

According to Ms Jenneth Geel, senior inspector at the SPCA, Passano admitted guilt to the charges when he appeared in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on 30 October.

The charges laid against him related to holding animals in pens without providing them with water on various occasions from April 2011 to March this year.

The SPCA warned him repeatedly before pressing charges.

“We submitted visual material taken at the scene as evidence.

“The photographs showed animals standing in small areas without water and empty water containers were used as refuse containers,” said Ms Geel.

Passano was fined R10 000 suspended for three years.

“The Highveld Ridge SPCA fully supports the National SPCA’s stance that cruelty to animals will not be tolerated and welcomes the guilty verdict,” said Ms Geel.
